Since 2017, Helpline Foundation for the Needy Abuja has facilitated the Girls engage and prepare young girls to take on Leadership roles for the good of themselves and their society. One of the annual highlights of the GRYP is the Voice of the Girls’ Parliament (VOGP) The VOGP provides a platform for girls from public schools to acquire leadership skills through a series of trainings and mentorship sessions after which a mock parliamentary election is held among the girls. Principal officers of the VOGP are elected through this process, the parliamentarians also serve as advocates and child rights ambassadors in their local communities.
Having realised that the Covid-19 pandemic and its resulting lockdown will hamper on our ability to bring the girls together as is our practice, we thought it wise to provide alternative platforms for the girls to share their experiences, this thought birthed the book “My Covid-19 Story”The book is a compilation of the personal experience of young African girls and I hope that it draws the attention of everyone of us to silent thoughts of the girl child.
This book is also intended to let every young girl out there know that their thoughts and opinions are valid. I encourage girls to speak up and face any challenge head long without loosing their pride or dignity, girls should never shy away from pursuing their dreams in life because with determination, hard work and faith in God, those dreams always come true.
